Our History

The year 2023 will mark 50 years of operations for Magic Carpet Preschool!  We love that we have taught three generations of students in the Bloomsburg community and we are excited to continue the tradition.  Magic Carpet Preschool was founded by Penny Pomfret in 1973, and she handed over the reigns to Kelly McBride Young & Kirstie Marotto in 2018.

Our Licensing

We pride ourselves as a Private Academic School, which is licensed and registered through the PA Department of Education as a Preschool.  In the state of Pennsylvania, Preschools are held to a higher academic standard than registered Daycare centers.

Our Philosophy

Magic Carpet Preschool was established to nurture the intellectual, emotional, social and physical development of each child to their fullest in order that each child will be a well-rounded individual, one prepared to take on the challenges of living in the future.  Our goal is to ease the transition from home to school and to facilitate learning in a way that satisfies the child's natural curiosity, creativity, spontaneity, and enthusiasm as well as to provide opportunities for each child to socialize, feel comfortable in a group setting, and experiment with interesting and challenging materials and equipment.

We recognize children's varied abilities, interests, needs and learning styles.  Our policy of inclusion of children with special needs serves to enrich the classroom and foster understanding and acceptance of each child.  We also strive to promote awareness and appreciation for other cultures and ways of doing things.

Magic Carpet PreSchool recognizes the importance of utilizing phonemic awareness in our curriculum, and has been using the Heggerty Method since 2019.  Our curriculum is integrated with a "theme base" and each theme teaches all the standards and educational requirements by the Pennsylvania Board of Education.
